Frequently asked questions
How do I play?
Swipe across touching letters, including diagonally, to make words of three letters or more. Each tile can be used once per word. Lift your finger to check the word: green means a new word, yellow means you've already found it, and red means it isn't in the dictionary.
How many levels are there?
1,000 levels in ten chapters, with more to come in future updates. The level map is a star chart: each level is a star, and the more stars you earn on it, the brighter it glows. Your current level is marked "Seek here", and when you open the app the chart whisks you straight back to it.
What happens when I tap a level?
A card shows the level's goals and your progress on each, the Seeker Word's revealed letters, your time and best score, and a peek at the board. Tap Play (or Continue) to start.
How do stars work?
Every level has four goals shown above your found words, and each one earns a star. One star is always enough to unlock the next level, so you can move on or stay and collect them all.
What is the Seeker Word?
Every board is built around one long, everyday word, hidden among the letters. Each star you earn on the other three goals reveals one of its letters, up to three.
What are Sparks?
Sparks ✨ are hints. In a level, tap a goal card, then Use 1 Spark. On the Seeker goal, a Spark reveals two more letters of the Seeker Word in silver. On any other goal, it lights up one word on the board that counts towards that goal: one step closer, not the whole goal. Swipe the word to collect it. A Seeker Word found with silver letters doesn't count for Super Seeker or your fastest Seeker Word.
How do I get more Sparks?
You start with 5. You earn one the first time a level gets all four stars, and three more when every level in a chapter has four stars. Unlock 100 Levels comes with 10 bonus Sparks and WordSeeker Pro with 20. You can also buy a pack of 10. Your balance shows above the goal cards, on the level map and in Your Stats. Sparks never expire, and they follow you to your other devices through iCloud.
What are the gold tiles?
Special tiles. A two-letter tile such as ES or TH adds both letters in one step. An either/or tile such as P/W can be read as either letter, and the game picks whichever makes a word.
Why did a word score extra?
Uncommon words score half as much again, and rare words score double. They're marked ×1.5 or ×2 in your word list.
What do the purchases include?
Levels 1–15 are free. Unlock 100 Levels is a one-time purchase that opens levels 16–100. WordSeeker Pro opens every level, including new ones in future updates. Either one also lets you choose your own theme colour and comes with bonus Sparks. There's no subscription. You can also buy packs of 10 Sparks (hints), which are used up as you play.
I bought an unlock. How do I get it on another device?
Sign in with the same Apple Account, then open Settings (the gear on the level map) › Restore Purchases. Family members can use the unlocks too if Family Sharing is switched on. Sparks you've bought aren't restored this way; they sync through iCloud instead, so sign in to the same Apple Account with iCloud on.
Where are the leaderboards and achievements?
Tap the trophy on the level map. Leaderboards shows total stars, the weekly Star Race, furthest level, time played, days played and how long you've been a Seeker, for everyone or just your friends. Achievements shows your progress towards Word Smith, Word Wizard, Word Magician, Word Seeker, Word Racer (two stars on a level in under a minute) and Super Seeker (a Seeker Word in under 30 seconds). Leaderboards need you to be signed in to Game Center in the Settings app. For challenges and friends, tap View in Game Center.
Why does it ask about my Game Center friends?
Only if you choose Friends on a leaderboard. iOS asks once whether WordSeeker may show your Game Center friends' scores. It's optional, and the leaderboards still work for everyone if you say no.
Where are my stats?
Tap the bar chart on the level map for Your Stats: your stars, time and days played, fastest stars, quickest Seeker Word, every different word you've found and your longest word. In a level, open the ⋯ menu › Level Stats for your best time to each star on that level.
How do I see what a word means?
Touch and hold any word you've found. The meaning comes from the dictionary built into your iPhone. If no definition appears, you may need to download a dictionary: tap Manage on that screen.
Can I turn the board?
Yes. Tap the turn button at the top of the level to rotate the board a quarter turn. The letters stay upright, and a fresh angle often shows new words.
Why wasn't my word accepted?
Both American and British spellings count, so "color" and "colour" are both fine. Words must be at least three letters, and names, abbreviations and hyphenated words aren't included. WordSeeker is a family game, so slurs and strongly offensive words are left out too. If you think an everyday word is missing, email us and we'll take a look.
Can I play in landscape?
Yes. Turn your iPhone sideways. To choose whether the board sits on the left or right, open Settings (the gear or the ⋯ menu) › Board position in landscape.
Why isn't my progress syncing?
Your level progress, Sparks, days played, weekly Star Race stars and theme colour sync through iCloud. Check that each device is signed in to the same Apple Account, and that iCloud is allowed for WordSeeker in the Settings app under your name › iCloud. iOS decides when to sync, so changes can take a few minutes to arrive.
How do I start a level again?
In the level, open the ⋯ menu and choose Start Again. Your found words are cleared, but the timer keeps running, so a board's times show how long it took you the first time. Stars and best scores you've already earned are kept, and so are any Spark hints you used on the level.
